CLIMATE JUSTICE PROJECT: On April 10, 2008, over 100 people attended a panel on CLIMATE CHANGE AND HEALTH held at Northeastern University. As part of National Public Health Week events, the panel included NEJRC's own Daniel Faber, along with Sarah Zaphiris (Policy Advisor to Boston Mayor Menino); Professor Daniel Douglass (Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences; and Shan Mohammed (Department of Health Sciences). The panel explored the health impacts of climate change from an environmental justice perspective, as well as policy approaches to address such problems. The event was sponsored by the MPH Program in Urban Health; Health Science Society; Students for Environmental Action (SEA); Husky Energy Action Team (HEAT); and NEJRC.
The Northeastern Environmental Justice Research Collaborative (NEJRC) is a multidisciplinary research collaborative made up of scholars, activists, and policy makers in New England engaged in the study of political ecology and environmental justice initiatives. Located at Northeastern University in Boston, the collaborative works on a wide range of local, regional, national, and international topics and issues. Professor Daniel Faber -a long-time researcher and advocate around envrionmental justice - serves as the Director.
Each project has a group of Associates which are actively undertaking research related to that topic, and are committed to fostering policy proposals and other prescriptions around issues of environmental injustice.
