Job Opening for Two Tenure-Track Professor in Anthropology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology announces two tenure-track positions in Anthropology at the Assistant Professor level, to begin in the Fall of 2010. Preference will be given to applicants who can make contributions to our undergraduate major in anthropology and to the globalization emphasis in our PhD program in sociology. Expertise in any geographic region of the world will be considered, but we are particularly keen to encourage applications from anthropologists studying Africa, Asia, or the Middle East. Candidates should have a record of scholarly accomplishment or the clear potential for distinction with respect to research. Also required are demonstrated excellence in the classroom and a commitment to teaching both broad foundational courses and upper level courses in anthropology. Candidates should have substantial experience in, and a demonstrated commitment to, diversity in the academic environment. Women and members of historically excluded groups are especially encouraged to apply. A PhD in Anthropology is required at the time of appointment. Job Opening for Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology announces a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning in the Fall of 2010. Areas of specialization are open, but we particularly encourage applications from candidates with expertise in one of the following areas: racial and ethnic relations; deviance and social control; or conflict and violence. Candidates should have a record of scholarly accomplishment or the clear potential for distinction with respect to research. Although all methodological orientations will be considered, we encourage applications from candidates with strong backgrounds in quantitative research. Candidates should also have substantial experience in, and a demonstrated commitment to, diversity in the academic environment.
