Liza Weinstein

Liza Weinstein, Assistant Professor of Sociology, is a recent Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Specializing in the study of urban communities and globalization, Dr. Weinstein is the author of several articles and book chapters on the social and political conflicts that often accompany urban planning within developing societies. Her most recent project rests on many months of ethnographic research in the slums of Mumbai, India –research that has led to such publications as Mumbai’s Development Mafias: Organized Crime, Land Development, and Globalization, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research (March, 2008); Democracy in the Globalizing Indian City: Engagements of Political Society and the State in Globalizing Mumbai, Politics & Society (September 2009); and The Changing Right to the City: Urban Renewal and Housing Rights in Globalizing Shanghai and Mumbai (with Xuefei Ren), City & Community (September 2009).
